How It All Began
Dude, Sweet Chocolate was co-founded in late 2009 by pastry chef Katherine Clapner using her decades of experience working with culinary icons across the globe. The mission was to create a chocolate company that drew from global cuisines as well as using often ingredients seen as savory. Katherine’s approach is to create extraordinary chocolates while leaving all the pretense behind. The results have garnered a loyal fan base and numerous accolades over the years.
Dude, Sweet Chocolate has one brick and mortar store where they retail the chocolate directly, and we maintain sales relationships with dozens of both local and out of state resellers, ranging from corner stores to Whole Foods, Central Market and winery and distillery operations. Katherine’s extensive and impressive pastry background also allows her to spread her wings and add chocolate to the most unexpected of ingredients.
Where We're At Today
Dude, Sweet Chocolate traces its roots to a dive bar just south of downtown Dallas, Lee Harvey's, where co-founders Chef Katherine Clapner and Redding May were regulars. Heading towards the holidays in 2008, he partnered with her to send unique artisan chocolates as client gifts while working with Merrill Lynch. After that, she ran with the idea - pushing her chocolate creations in summer heat at farmers markets and the like. Mid-year 2009, she brought up the idea of opening a store, and the first small kitchen/store was built-out and opened in early December that year.
At Dude, Sweet Chocolate we strive to differentiate ourselves by maintaining intense focus on the quality of the chocolates and not getting lost in the trends. At first glance, some ingredients and names may sound odd, but the end result is comforting and familiar. Kraft paper packaging, brown labeling, and simple, clean design shift attention to the chocolate, which stands on its own.
Another differentiating factor is the spectrum of unique flavor profiles she uses - savory to sweet, and everything in between. As an example, a couple of her best sellers are the Albatross blue cheese (award winning Rogue Creamery) and sea salt fudge, and our Fungus Amongus porcini and pumpkin seed toffee. These kinds of collaborations, done well, are the products of incredible culinary experience and vision - Katherine somehow makes it look easy.

I hesitated to review these Egg Nog Pecans because they are so delicious—I want them all for me and for my friends! You eat one and the next thing you know, the entire bag is gone! I ordered them for myself first and then came back to make sure that I sent them to 8 other friends and family before they are all gone! So amazingly delicious! Dude Sweet Chocolate does it again!
These are really really great. I have them shipped to me in Atlanta, and then keep at least one in my refrigerator at all times. When I need it, I slice off a few slices and enjoy them with coffee. I also serve them , sliced thin, as the last excellent touch of my rare dinner parties. I just got the holiday one and can't wait to try it.
Dude Sweet always delivers quality! I love the unique chocolates and crafted marshmallows. They make a hit when I send Dude Sweet as a gift to hard to buy for friends. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this chocolate shop years ago in the Bishop Arts district
These are my favorite truffles! Truly something special.
This fudge is creamy and rich with a smooth finish that lingers in the best way. From beginning to end the individual ingredients make an appearance like musical instruments in a well-crafted symphony. I typically pair this with a spicy rye to accentuate the sweetness of the fudge and so as not to mask any of the flavors. Do yourself a favor and pick up a box.
All of DS's nut based chocolate expressions are notable, and this one stands out. The choice of Moroccan allspice and white chocolate make the cinnamon really pop in the best way. I pair these with a good Campbeltown or Islay whisky as I find the smoky peat of the whisky makes the combination of spices and white chocolate really blossom in the finish.
This expression is one I keep in-house at all times. The smooth texture of the chocolate is quite rich. The locally roasted Ethiopian coffee that is used adds a deep satisfying complexity. If I'm partaking in the morning I typically pair this with a creamy coffee to allow the rich dark features of the chocolate shine through. If i'm indulging in this expression outside working ours I pair it with a good rye whiskey or a Speyside or Highland single male whisky. Both work well and the finish in between nibbles and sips is notable. Do yourself a favor and pick up the big box.
This is a beautiful gourmet item, more than a "novelty" though it is that too. High quality, good tasting chocolate. I appreciated that it slices beautifully and looks great when sliced (and before). Generous quantity for the price. It was a little spicy (not like a salami, like Mexican style chocolate) which I didn't expect -- "but good" ! Recommended.
Dude Sweet never fails to deliver a quality experience. My orders arrive quickly and fresh every time. I highly recommend the “chocolate for the people” monthly subscription because it makes enjoying different chocolate expressions the norm.
Diving into this one with friends was a blast.
I love everything they make with dark chocolate. Their dark chocolate is mmmm ❤️
So good, and you get to try everything
I live in Canton, TX but my husband takes me to Dude, Sweet Chocolate at the Bishop Arts District. Absolutely love it. Staff are very nice. Stop in and try a sample. Since I live some distance away, I buy at least 2 boxes. Ask them about their program for frequent shoppers.
The most heavenly, most perfectly made chocolate one's senses will ever have the privilege of experiencing. Any time I am even remotely close to a Dude Sweet location, I make a point to stock up on Chubby Nuts and Crack in a Box. I was sad to learn that the Ft. Worth location and one in Dallas closed. But, as long as Katherine Clapner is waving her magic chocolate wand, I will go how ever far is necessary to satisfy my obsession. Oh... and she beat Bobby Flay. ;)
Great place! Love their chocolate granola trail mix!'
